Some quilts that I have finished

So I have been trying to get rid of a cold now for over a week. This happens to me every time the seasons change here in TX...and IM OVER IT! *sigh*

Here are some pics of quilts that I have finished.

I happened across some utube vids of a lady doing a quilt as you go method. I really was very interested in giving it a shot. I didn't have a machine at the time...so...to craigslist I went. I found a lady just up the street selling her mom's Singer Touch & Sew...with the cabinet...$50. Got it home, and it sewed perfectly! Got the fabric from fat quarter bundle, I think at WalMart. Very inexpensive, but again, had never really done this before. I have to say I felt pretty good about it. So I was on to the next project.

This is another project with the same quilt as you go technique. Again, another fat quarter bundle, this time from ebay. I really like the way this one turned out.

I have been so inspired by Leah Day and her blog. I tried my hand a free motion quilting.

This is my attempt at the Etch and Sketch filler stitch. It worked up pretty fast, and I have to say, I was hooked on FMQ!

The next couple of quilts are basically the same quilt, but with very different fabrics. Both are charm packs with sashing. But I did FM stippling/meandering on them both. It really was just an experiment to see if I could actually do it. And again, I was very happy with the way they both turned out.

I don't have any delusions about my ability...TRUST! But with every quilt I finish, I am so excited to start the next one. I learn something new with every project that I complete...usually there is a seam ripper involved in the lesson! But, for me, I really get a sense of satisfaction from actually completing something that I started. Also, the fact that it was MY hands that created this. That is really a pretty cool feeling for me.

Till next time!

First Blog...EVER!

Well, I thought that I would give this a try. I have been inspired by so many other blogs out there, that I thought this might be a good place to talk about whats going on with me, and what I happen to be working on.

I grew up around quilting and sewing machines. My great grandmother quilted from a huge frame that came down from the ceiling over her guest bedroom bed. I remember her piecing quilts by hand in front of the television as she watched her "stories" during the daytime. My mom sewed for the public also, mostly alterations and such, but even so, I still grew up around machines.

I went through a very dark period in my life when the last of my family were laid to rest, and came out of this period by going back to my family roots with quilting...hence the name...One Quilt at a Time. I get many different reactions from ppl when they find out I quilt, but its something that calms me, and also keeps my hands busy.

I don't really set deadlines for anything that I do, but I seem to not work on more than 2-3 projects at a time. I have a great sense of accomplishment when I can finish a work, and knowing myself, if I had a closet full of UFO's, it would just 1. make me crazy! and 2. lead to a sense of not finishing something.

And seriously...NOTHING I do is exquisite! But I enjoy it, and its kind of a therapy for me. When I figure out this blogging "thing" alittle more, I will post some pics of projects that I have completed.

Thanks for reading and...
